Our grassroots education organizations are working across the state to help Illinois communities pave the way to a clean energy future. Our spotlight organization this month is Prairie Rivers Network, an organization furthering their mission of protecting water, healing land, and inspiring change in their role as a funded grassroots education organization.

Prairie Rivers Network is working with First Followers, an organization led by and in support of people who were formerly incarcerated, to do person to person outreach to invite residents to upcoming community meetings. In addition to upcoming meetings for residents focused on community solar and distributed generation, Prairie Rivers Network will lead a workshop for non-profit and public facilities on Tuesday, October 22, 2019.

Cunningham Children’s Home, the host for this workshop, was recently selected as the site for a solar development that will supply electricity to their new Educational Center, reducing their operating costs and allowing savings to be spent fulfilling the organization’s goal of providing a safe and productive home for children who have been displaced. Attendance at this and other events led by grassroots education organizations are open to the public.
